Energy storage safety is the core lifeline for the export of distributed new energy. Recently, Xiehang has made new progress in its energy storage safety verification. Its V0-level fire-resistant lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) energy storage battery pack successfully completed the 72-hour continuous high-temperature aging reliability test. Under the long-term high-temperature stress test, the battery pack met all the requirements for electrical performance, structural stability, and flame retardant protection. This further solidifies the safety foundation of the product in tropical and outdoor high-temperature overseas scenarios, providing high-security-level energy storage products for global off-grid household, small-scale industrial and commercial energy storage projects.
As energy storage products gradually enter tropical markets in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America, the batteries are constantly exposed to intense sunlight, high environmental temperatures, and large day-night temperature differences. Continuous high temperatures accelerate the aging of battery materials, the decomposition of electrolytes, and are prone to internal resistance increase, capacity decline, and sealing failure, posing potential risks such as internal short circuits, capacity reduction, and sealing failure. Unlike conventional short-term safety tests, this 72-hour high-temperature aging test is an accelerated reliability verification, simulating the cumulative thermal stress of the battery in a high-temperature environment for continuous operation, to test the performance stability of the battery pack under long-term heat loading. It exposes potential risks in materials, assembly, and BMS protection logic in advance, and is an important internal control verification step before Xiehang's energy storage products go global.
This lithium iron phosphate energy storage battery pack adopts an UL94 V0-level halogen-free flame-retardant shell and heat insulation protection structure. UL94 V0 is a recognized industry-level high-end flame-retardant grade, requiring materials to quickly extinguish when exposed to open flames, without igniting or melting droplets, and being able to block the spread of flames at the initial stage of thermal runaway, constructing the first passive fire protection barrier. In terms of cell selection, the product is equipped with high-stability A-level lithium iron phosphate cells, combined with a modular structure design with layered insulation and gas flow guidance, forming a multi-layer safety protection system from cells, modules to the entire pack; it is also equipped with Xiehang's self-developed BMS battery management system, which can monitor the voltage and temperature of each string of cells in real time, and has multiple active protection functions such as overcharge, overdischarge, overcurrent, high-temperature warning, and equalization management, achieving dual security of active protection and passive fire prevention.
During the entire 72-hour high-temperature aging test, the test team continuously collected key data such as cell voltage, single temperature difference, internal resistance, and shell temperature. After the test, re-inspection showed that the battery pack had no bulging, leakage, or deformation, and the sealing structure did not fail; the pressure difference and internal resistance changes were controlled within the preset safety range, the capacity retention rate, charging and discharging functions were normal, and the fireproof performance of the flame-retardant shell did not decline due to long-term high-temperature aging, successfully passing all assessment indicators. The test results confirm that the V0-level fire-resistant structure combined with the lithium iron phosphate system can effectively resist the aging impact of long-term high-temperature environments, and is suitable for high-temperature scenarios such as overseas without power grids, off-grid household, and small-scale photovoltaic integration.
Based on a complete safety verification system, Xiehang's energy storage has established a full-chain quality control process from cell entry, module assembly, battery pack aging to third-party certification. In addition to the high-temperature aging test, a series of battery packs are also conducting reliability and safety tests such as short circuit, compression, puncture, wet heat cycling, and salt spray, and are compatible with international mainstream certification standards such as IEC and UN38.3, suitable for various country entry regulations. Currently, this series of V0-level fire-resistant lithium iron phosphate energy storage battery packs, together with Xiehang's portable energy storage kits, photovoltaic storage charging cabinets, and small-scale industrial and commercial energy storage cabinets, have formed a product matrix, and are being used in batches for hundreds of countries' households, micro-grids, and small-scale industrial and commercial customers.
A relevant official from Xiehang Energy Storage stated that many of the overseas energy storage projects are installed in open-air environments without air conditioning for cooling. Safety redundancy cannot rely solely on the battery cells themselves; the overall package's flame-retardant design and long-term reliability are the key to successful implementation. The successful completion of this 72-hour high-temperature aging test is a practical verification of Xiehang's commitment to the "safety first" research and development philosophy. In the future, Xiehang Energy Storage will continue to deepen thermal simulation, insulation fire prevention, and high-temperature BMS strategy research, continuously improve the safety testing matrix for energy storage products, and make targeted optimizations for differentiating overseas working conditions such as tropical high temperatures, high humidity, and high salt fog. It will continue to output highly reliable and safe energy storage products, uphold the safety bottom line of energy storage, and help the global distributed photovoltaic energy storage to be safely and stably implemented.
